What is solar energy and how does it work?
Solar energy works by converting sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic (PV) solar panels. When sunlight hits the solar cells, it creates an electric current. An inverter converts this DC electricity into AC electricity used in your home. Any excess power can either be stored in a battery (off-grid/hybrid) or exported to the electricity grid (on-grid) earning you credits on your electricity bill.
What is an On-Grid Solar System? Is it right for me?
An on-grid (grid-tied) solar system connects directly to your electricity grid. The solar panels generate electricity, the inverter converts it, and you use it in your home. Excess electricity is exported to the grid and you earn net metering credits.
Best for: Areas with 24/7 reliable electricity supply. No batteries needed — lower cost. You can save 80–95% on your electricity bill. This is the most common system for PM Surya Ghar subsidy.

What is an Off-Grid Solar System?
An off-grid solar system is completely independent from the electricity grid. It uses solar panels + battery storage. During the day, panels charge the batteries and power your home. At night or on cloudy days, the batteries supply power.
Best for: Areas with frequent power cuts, remote locations, farmhouses. Requires battery investment but gives complete energy independence.

What is a Hybrid Solar System?
A hybrid solar system combines the best of both on-grid and off-grid systems. It has solar panels + batteries + grid connection. Priority: Solar → Battery → Grid. You get backup power during power cuts AND can export excess to the grid.
Best for: Areas with occasional power cuts where you want both backup and grid export. Slightly higher upfront cost but maximum flexibility.

Which solar panels are eligible for PM Surya Ghar subsidy?
Only ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers) listed solar modules from Indian manufacturers are eligible for PM Surya Ghar subsidy. This means you must use panels made in India.
All the brands VSOLARIZE supplies — Adani Solar, Waaree Energies, Polycab — are ALMM approved and eligible for the full subsidy. Chinese-made panels (even popular brands) do NOT qualify for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy.

How long does solar panel installation take?
For a typical residential rooftop system (1–5 kW), the actual installation takes 1–2 days. However, the complete process including DISCOM approval, net meter application, and PM Surya Ghar registration takes 30–90 days.
Timeline:
• Site survey: Same day or next day
• DISCOM feasibility approval: 7–15 days
• Installation: 1–2 days
• Net meter installation: 15–30 days
• PM Surya Ghar subsidy credit: 30–60 days after commissioning

What is the lifespan of solar panels? What warranty do I get?
Modern solar panels last 25–30 years. The performance degrades slowly over time — typically 1–2% in the first year and less than 0.5% per year thereafter.
Typical warranties from brands VSOLARIZE supplies:
• Product/workmanship warranty: 10–12 years
• Linear performance warranty: 25–30 years
• Inverter warranty: 5–10 years
At the end of 25 years, a good quality panel still produces 80–87% of its original rated power.

How much electricity does a solar system generate? Will it cover my bill?
In the Delhi NCR / Ghaziabad region, 1 kW of solar panels generates approximately 100–130 units (kWh) per month.
Common system sizes:
• 1 kW → 100–130 units/month (₹700–900 bill reduction)
• 2 kW → 200–260 units/month (₹1,400–1,800 bill reduction)
• 3 kW → 300–390 units/month (₹2,100–2,700 bill reduction)
• 5 kW → 500–650 units/month (₹3,500–4,500 bill reduction)
A 3 kW system is sufficient for most 2–3 BHK homes consuming 250–300 units/month.

What is net metering? How does it work?
Net metering allows on-grid solar owners to export excess electricity back to the grid and receive credits on their electricity bill. A bidirectional (net) meter is installed that measures both the electricity you consume from the grid AND the electricity you export.
At the end of the billing cycle, you only pay for the 'net' electricity consumed (units used − units exported). In many months, your bill can come to ₹0 or even go into credit.
VSOLARIZE handles the net metering application with your DISCOM (DVVNL, PVVNL, BSES, etc.) completely free of charge.

What is the payback period for solar? Is it a good investment?
In Delhi NCR / UP, the typical payback period for an on-grid solar system is 3–5 years.
Example: 3 kW system
• Total cost: ₹1,50,000–1,80,000
• PM Surya Ghar subsidy: ₹78,000
• Net cost after subsidy: ₹72,000–1,02,000
• Monthly savings: ₹2,500–3,500
• Payback: 2–3 years after subsidy
• Remaining life: 22+ more years of free electricity!
Solar gives 20–25% annual return on investment — better than most fixed deposits.

What maintenance does a solar system need?
Solar systems require very minimal maintenance:
Regular maintenance:
• Panel cleaning: Once every 1–2 months (dust/bird droppings reduce output by 10–20%)
• Visual inspection: Check for physical damage, loose wires
• Monitoring: Use the inverter app to track daily generation
Periodic maintenance:
• Inverter check: Annually
• Structure/mounting check: Annually
• Battery check (if applicable): Every 6 months
Most inverters come with WiFi apps that alert you to any issues automatically.

What is the difference between N-Type TOPCon and P-Type PERC panels?
P-Type PERC (older technology):
• Efficiency: 19–21%
• Slightly lower cost
• Good performance, industry standard
• Minor LID (Light Induced Degradation) in first year
• 25-year warranty typical
N-Type TOPCon (newer, premium technology):
• Efficiency: 22–23.5%
• No LID loss — starts strong and stays strong
• Better performance in high heat and low light conditions
• Lower degradation over time (0.4%/year vs 0.55%/year)
• 30-year warranty typical
• 10–15% higher output from same roof area
For PM Surya Ghar subsidy: both types are eligible if ALMM approved.

Can solar panels work on cloudy days or in winter?
Yes! Solar panels do not need direct sunlight — they work on daylight (diffused light). However, output is reduced on heavily cloudy days.
Typical performance:
• Bright sunny day: 100% output
• Partly cloudy: 60–80% output
• Overcast/heavy fog: 20–40% output
• Delhi NCR winter haze: 60–75% of summer peak
Over a full year, annual generation estimates already account for seasonal variations, clouds, and foggy winter months. A 3 kW system in Ghaziabad generates approximately 3,600–4,200 units per year on average.
